Vocabulary Based Gesture Recognition System (vgrs): Design and Applications

چکیده

Gestures with the evolution of user interaction interfaces have been offered as a means of natural interaction, for possessing characteristics like that of direct interaction, their flexibility, their reality of experience and their huge acceptability by the users. The Gesture Recognition systems proposed and implemented till date though have the ability to be a highly flexible means of interaction, instead these systems are confining the end users to an arbitrary, and rigidly defined gesture set. Even though the gesture recognition systems are adaptive to changing user characteristics due to fatigue level of experience or disability. But, allowing for flexibility in input styles must ensure a broader user base that could aid the user with a vocabulary set for interaction. Motivated by the concept the present research effort leads towards the design and application of a Vocabulary based Gesture Recognition System (VGRS). The mechanisms though have its inheritance from text-based interfaces, evolved from 2D graphical-based interfaces, and multimedia-supported interfaces. This present research effort concentrates on designing of gesture recognition system with the prospects of its application in various fields like virtual gaming, medical applications, education system based applications and defense and security applications. The objective is of developing a low cost interface design for interacting with computing devices in dynamic environment using hand gestures. This hand gesture recognition technique aims to replace the use of mouse for interaction with the computing devices in a dynamic environment.
